With new Firefox doing well, we were not expecting another browser as such. Firefox has done quite well to take the utility of web browser from an “Explorer” to a tool to use distributed (web) applications. However, it is exciting to see the features that Google Chrome offers. We have come a long way from Mosaic to Google’s Chrome.
The major leap is in terms of user experience with browser. Simple user interface with minimalistic buttons and bars makes it easily acceptable to a new user. Each tab is independent now to make the whole browser crash-proof against crash of an individual tab. You do not have to close the entire browser in between your prolong research work on Internet or in between long strenuous work on your company Internet. The browser is also faster in executing scripts and rendering HTML except while starting contacting server host – Microsoft’s IE is genius at that.
User-centric approach on the address-bar features makes it the leader. One click select for URL and suggestion including search terms, and instant bookmarking are distinct features. All look praise-worthy when we see the actual browser after the inciting blog a day before.
Like all big releases, Chrome was surrounded by controversial terms of use from Google. Thank God! All went well when Google changed its policy terms after the serious note from world-wide community.
For web developers, a good news is that it is quite easy to achieve the browser-compatibility on Chrome. It ensures a default compatibility of a web page if it has already been tested so on Safari 3.1 which is true for all serious web developers. Like Firefox3, Chrome is now getting ready for futuristic off-line applications. In fact Gear is already built into Chrome. The true status will be know in the next few month with newer applications are written and used on these browsers.
The major disadvantage with Chrome is it is only available on PC though they plan to make it available for other desktop platforms in near future.
